DJ/Rupture (Jace Clayton) has been doing the wicky-wicky-wicky thing on the 1s and 2s for years, bringing some of the world’s best progressive sounds together in mixes that are experimental and international in scope and attitude. He’s described himself as a “border-crossing bass visionary.” New York mag even dubbed him a “one man musical Venn diagram.”
Let’s just say dude knows how to get the global party started. For example, on the “MuddUp” radio show he hosts Mondays on WFMU–91.1FM in NYC, he recently played an woozy Weezy instrumental, tracks from FADER coverboy Spoek Mathambo (who’s from South Africa) and a couple truly irresistible joints from Colombian (via the T-dot) cutie-pie Lido Pimienta.
Plus, he just dropped “DJ/Rupture presents CIAfrica,” his latest project which is a compilation of Ivory Coast hip-hop bangers from the CIAfrica crew. For those who like that dancehall-ish, grimey stuff, the sound has a similar dissonant aggressiveness. Listen below to a stream of the CD…
To experience DJ/Rupture’s rapture in the flesh, head to the Whitney Museum. He’ll be spinning and co-headlining with Brooklyn duo Tanlines. Tonight!!
Stream “CIAfrica” below (or buy it at Turntable Lab, Amazon or Boomkat):

Excellent blog! I actually love how it is easy on my eyes as well as the facts are well written. I am wondering how I can be notified whenever a new post has been made. I have subscribed to your rss feed which really should do the trick! Have a nice day!
