Das Racist

The two groups that I’m most excited about these days couldn’t be more different: Black Mountain are a bunch of psychedelic rockers from Vancouver, and Das Racist is a Brooklyn-based rap act who went viral with their goofy joke-rap song, “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.” (The group consists of legit MC’s who work in the free associative lyrical tradition of say, Cam’ron or Das EFX.)

The former, whose new album Wilderness Heart drops Sept. 14, performed the hard-driving “Old Fangs” on Jimmy Fallon this week. The video follows (via) and their Deep Purple-ish sound simply rocks.

Meanwhile Das Racist, has released an 8-bit videogame and the following trad music clip for “Who’s That, Brown” which utilizes a vocal sample of Charlie Brown from another fave group, Leaders of the New School. Their next mixtape, “Sit Down, Man,” drops on Sept. 14 too. And in case you missed it, the group weighed in on Flavorpill about The New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones’ claim that hip-hop is dead. It got heated in the comments…
