My favorite photographers (Roy DeCarava, Glen E. Friedman) have a way of making me wish I could travel back in time to experience the culture they’ve captured in their images. Janette Beckman is another one. Her photos of the punk and hip-hop scene in London, NY, and LA are pretty amazing examples of the early style, attitude, and undeniable star power of some of who we consider today to be music legends.
The good folks at Arkitip have culled some of Beckman’s black and white photos, published them on 22 x 11″ broadsheet newsprint, and packaged them in re-sealable bag. The Clash, Ultramagnetic MCs, Run-DMC, Roxanne Shante, cholos/cholas, and others make up the 24-page Janette Beckman Newspaper. See some selects below.
For just $7.50, Arktitip is selling the limited edition run. (Only 1,000 have been made.) Order here. Hurry up. Christmas is right around the corner.
