Listen Up: Nas' "The Don"

Nas has dropped another heat rock with “The Don.”

Following up on recent murderous verses on songs like Rick Ross‘ “Triple Beam Dreams,” “Ghetto Dreams” (off Common’s The Dreamer and the Believer), Tyga‘s “King & Queens,”  and his own “Nasty.”

Nas continues his hot streak with this track which samples SuperCat and features the late Heavy D on coproduction.

The song has that definitive NY rap flavor. It’s almost as hard-knocking as “Made You Look” in terms of sheer unabashed brutishness.

Plus, the track has that same rough and ready Caribbean vibe that bolstered the best parts of an otherwise underappreciated collaboration with Damian Marley on Distant Relatives.

This time, though, it’s SuperCat’s vocal that just sirens through the beat:  Inna New York City…Inna New York City…

Apparently, the track is setting up Nas’ forthcoming, tentatively titled album Life Is Good.

Let’s hope that Nas drops that hotly anticipated LP this spring with more fat-free burners like this.
